Barely There (Underwear)

Possibly one of my very favourite things about bridal fashion is that, no matter what the lucky lady chooses to wear on her big day, she will look impossibly beautiful in it. I think it may be something about the little cloud of love that she will be floating on, but there is a certain glow and beauty about every bride on her big day.

My least favourite thing about bridal wear? How difficult it is to find the right underwear to pair with your look. It must be invisible, yet still sexy. Functional, but comfortable. And don't even get me started on bra's for strapless gowns. Possibly the most awful invention in the universe, strapless bra's under wedding gowns will never cease to irritate.

So today I thought I would reveal a few tips to ensure that you aren't fidgeting in your Spanx throughout your big day...

Commandment 1. Thou shall think very carefully about your bra.
Every girl in the universe will tell you how irritating it can be when you're stuck in a bra that is either ill-fitting or just plain uncomfortable all day. This is never more true than on your wedding day, so bra choice is something to be considered very carefully. Forgoing a strapless bra (sorry, I just really hate them!) in favour of a bustier or corset gets rid of the whole adjusting dilemma, saving you time and frustration on your big day.

Commandment 2. Thou shall bring selected underwear to the final fitting.
Imagine it's the morning of the ceremony. Everything is going perfectly... until one of your bridesmaids notices that you have a very visible underwear line showing through your dress. Easiest way to avoid an awkward situation like this? Bring your underwear to the final fitting. Crisis averted!

Commandment 3. Thou shall invest in fashion tape.
No explanation needed... double sided fashion tape is an absolute bridal godsend.

So there you have it! Follow these simple steps in order to ensure that you're feeling your absolute best on the big day- both inside and out.

Party Style All Bandaged Up

We here at Babushka are buzzing this week- yes even more so than usual! Why, you may ask?

It's because our shipment of brand new bandage dresses have finally arrived, just in time for party season! The bright colours and stunning designs are right at home in store, bringing a little bit of sexy into the stockroom at both the City and Fortitude Valley stores.

Perfect for those hot summer nights, these little bandage mini's- whilst quite tight if sized correctly- are oh so flattering and a really great option for those occasions where you just want to suck everything in.

Another styling tip for these little dresses is to wear a looser skirt over the top of the dress, giving the illusion of a top and skirt combo.

The Location of Love

As hard as we may try to deny it, every girl has a dream wedding destination. You know what I'm talking about- that fantasy setting you've always imagined for the single most memorable day of your life. Be it the beach, the country or an elaborately designed church, no two are exactly the same.

We in Brisbane are blessed to be surrounded by little slices of wedding-venue paradise, with the surrounding beaches and natural spectacles proving to be perfect backdrops for the multitude of vows exchanged here each year. But with so many perfect palces to choose from, where does one start the hunt for her dream destination? TBB has compiled a list of our very favourite local spots scattered across the surrounding area for a little Monday inspiration.... so put down the paperwork and start day dreaming as we take you through our top three local wedding venues.

1. Deux Belettes
A little taste of France hidden a short drive from Byron Bay, Deux Belettes is- put quite simply- magnifique. The 16th Century style French chateau oozes romances in every detail, from the pebbled pathways and stone walls to the roses blooming in every direction. Ceramic cherubs adorne the many secret spots at this truly unique venue, complete with two suites available to completely ensconce the bridal and buck parties in French heaven.

2. Maleny Manor
There's a reason why Maleny Manor is the most awarded wedding venue in Queensland. Located high atop the Blackall Ranges on the Sunshine Coast, this beautiful location offers sweeping views of the stunning coastal landscape whilst still maintaining that beautifully quaint country feel.

An external spiral staircase leads from a luxurious bridal suite to the outdoor verandah, creating an elegant yet unique way for a bride to make her entrance. From there, the happy couple can choose from a stunning selection of on location ceremony and reception areas. Worked up an appeitite from all the vows and guest meet and greets? Never fear, because the onsite kitchen led by award winning chefs will take care of those groaning bellies with a mouthwatering selection of foods.

Feeling a little shy? Maleny Manor also caters to elopements, so if big shin digs aren't really your thing this could be the place for your intimate vows!

3. Flaxton Gardens

Also situated in picturesque Maleny, Flaxton Gardens is truly a sight to beheld. The warm, cozily inviting vibe makes it the ideal venue for brides looking to inject a little intimacy and relaxed class into precedings. Imagine the ultimate in cozy winter weddings dripping in understated elegance, and you'll begin to have an idea of the vibe at Flaxton Gardens.

Wine coloured decor filter throughout the entire venue, continuing this luxe country feel. Another highlight- the actual vineyard and 'wine room' available for hire.

Also known for it's exquisite food- believe me, this is from first hand experience- Flaxton is truly an escape from day to day life and offers a totally different way of celebrating true love on the Sunshine Coast.

Final note: Flaxton Gardens os near impossible to beat when it comes to the view. Drink in the entire Sunshine Coast coastline from this stunning location.

How To: Tie Your Anna Campbell

Anna Campbell's dresses are beautifully intricate and feminine whilst remaining quite simple in sillhouette, making them some of our most popular dresses. One of the biggest questions we receive on a day to day basis is how to tie them like we do in store, and how do you get them to remain perfectly tied for the duration of the special occasion?
The thing to to remember about tying Anna Campbell gowns is that there are three simple tricks to ensuring a perfect tie every time- keeping the sash flat, firm and on top of the elastic waistband. These steps (along with a few other helpful tips) are elaborated upon below in greater detail, to ensure you master the art of tying an Anna Campbell. And remember, practise makes perfect!
Keeping the sash flat
The importance of keeping the sash flat stems from the need to create a really defined waist- one of the most beautiful things about Campbell's designs. The flatter the sash sits on the body, the smaller and tighter the waist appears. Possibly the best way to get the sash sitting super flat is to grab it by the top edge closest to the bust and pull tight, ensuring the sash is pulled flat as you go around the waist.
Keeping the sash firm
This step and the previous step- keeping the sash flat- pretty well go hand in hand. Keeping the sash as firm as possible is crucial in ensuring that the dress requires minimal fiddling throughout the day and stays as tight and neat as it was when first tied. Another benefit of ensuring you wrap the sash around the waist as tightly as is comfortable is the enhancement it provides the female form. When tied correctly, the Anna Campbell gowns give a beautiful and ultra-feminine hourglass shape. Who doesn't want that?
Ensure the sash covers the elastic band
Making sure that the elastic is covered is purely for visual effect and, whilst has very little impact on the structural elements of the dress, is very important in maintaining the overall look of any Anna Campbell piece. Covering the elastic gives the illusion that the dress is simply made for the wearer, and any fashionista worth her credit card will tell you that this is possibly the decisive factor in pulling off an important look.
Final notes
Now that you have the basic AC commandments down pat, here's a few bonus tidbits to ensure that you look your absolute best for the occasion. Finishing off yourtied waist with a little bow is one of the sweetest way to finish off the look. To create the cutest bow possible, make tiny loops (loosely around your thumbs is usually a good place to start). Tie them as you would a usual bow, then delicately fluff out the loops. And there you have it... perfect bow!
Also double check that any front embellishments, lace or bows are untucked from the waist and you are good to go!
We are currently pulling together how to tie videos for all our Anna Campbell fans out there, so keep checking the blog and our Facebook for these useful accompaniments to this guide!
